Create Holy Margin

Operating with no margin is not healthy, biblical, or sustainable.

In previous days of this plan, we talked about being addicted to busy, sitting with the Lord so he can rearrange our priorities, and letting go. The next step is learning how to create a holy margin, and who better to help us with that than the Holy of Holies?

Jesus is the way to holiness, including adding margin around our lives.

When we are always chasing the world's way--be the best, keep up with the Joneses, work hard to pay for the toys we don't have time to play with because we're working so hard to afford them--it can be challenging to hear the still, small voice.

He whispers.

He beckons.

He invites.

If we commit everything we do to the Lord and trust him, he will help us--that is a promise found in Psalm 37:5. To get more HOLY margin in our lives, we can commit our ways to him daily. Sometimes, even moment by moment. He wants us to be so full of his light and life that all the darkness within us is pushed out.

All the things we worry about, every way we try to fill our lives to the brim, each item on our To Do list that doesn't serve him or His Kingdom--he wants to take it all. He offers to carry each of our heavy burdens. Giving those burdens over to him helps create more space for the sacred that he wants to gift us.

Holy margin isn't just for pastors or Super Christians. Holy margins are for anyone who wants to do things differently than run from thing to thing to thing. Holy margins are deep pockets of the goodness that he offers us.

To have empty hands to grab onto them, we will need to let go.

PRAYER: Jesus, show me your holiness--I want to be more like you! Whisper your kindnesses, sacred words, and beautiful thoughts to me so I know what I am supposed to do. This life keeps crowding in--will you help me learn to say no and stop filling my calendar and life with too much? I need your peace and Presence to create those sacred spaces that will be a protective margin around my time, life, and heart. Thank you for helping me every day with this! In Jesus' name, amen.
