Rearranging Priorities

When we first recognize that things are out of control, it feels daunting to rearrange our lives. We are barely keeping all the balls up in the air as it is--how can we do one more thing?

The answer is simple--sit with the Lord.

When we do what Matthew 6:33 says and seek the Lord first, we get the backside blessing of that verse: he adds everything else we need.

It can be overwhelming to allow the Lord to start moving things around and rearranging them in our hearts, but that is exactly what has to happen if we choose to unhook ourselves from the world's system and operate in a heavenly one.

When you sit with the Lord, you can ask him to show you what steps to take. His Word lights up our paths, and he will give us the answers we seek.

But we have to trust him.

Sometimes, he shows us a big picture of where he's taking us, and we get so excited that we run toward the cliff's edge in faith that he's got us. He does indeed have us, but maybe that vision is to lead and guide us in each step he has for us, encouraging and motivating us to do things his way.

Often, he shows us more turn-by-turn directions rather than the whole map at once.

Taking each next step in faith aligns our wills with his. When we do this, though it may feel disconcerting at first, we end up going in the direction he has for us. We operate in his purpose for us. We help to build our part of His Kingdom here on Earth.

That is something to get excited about!

PRAYER: Abba Father, forgive me where I have been led by the world's ways or my own desires! Please give me your eyes to see the path ahead and ears to hear your voice for each step I take. Rearrange my priorities in my life and my heart however you see fit. From now on, I seek you and your righteousness first, knowing that when I do that, you take care of everything else I need. In Jesus' name, amen.
