A Glimpse of Our Father: A 5-Day Devotional Plan for All of God’s Children

DAY 2 OF 5

A Glimpse of Our Father's Love

Work. Pump. Wash. Repeat. This was my daily routine for several months when I returned to work from maternity leave. I would have to pump milk for my nursing child three to four times per day. As exhausting as this process was, I did it. Why? Because I love my child and had to prepare what she needed to help sustain her. This love-in-action sacrifice was made on my part to meet her needs.

Similarly, God knew that we would have needs. Forgiveness. Salvation. Eternal life. So, to meet our needs, His sacrificial fatherly love was powerfully displayed when He sent His only Son, Jesus, to die on the cross for our sins. (John 3:16) Our Father was fully aware that we wouldn't always follow His instructions and would stray from His directions, yet He loved us enough to create a way to receive these life-changing gifts.

Romans 5:8 reminds us that "God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners."

Our Father's love is independent of anything we have done or will ever do. Divorce, drugs, lies, or stealing doesn't change God's love for us. Cheating on a test or profanity doesn't prohibit us from receiving God's love.

For further convincing, Romans 8:35, 38-39 states, "Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

This passage clearly can be translated to say that NOT ONE person, place, or thing can get in the way of our heavenly parent, God's love for us as His children. Simply stated, God's love for us is sacrificial and unconditional.

Reflect & Relate

Reflect on times you thought our Father didn't love you. Think about instances you felt separated from His love or thought, "He can't possibly love me after I did __________." How can you benefit from grasping the depth of our Father's love for you?
