A Glimpse of Our Father: A 5-Day Devotional Plan for All of God’s Children

DAY 1 OF 5

A Glimpse of Our Father's Role

"I DON'T LIKE BEING PATIENT," my daughter shouted after I told her to be patient because it wasn't time to go to the park yet! We would go as promised, but I had other tasks to complete around the house first. I would keep my word to my child, but she would have to wait.

I had to chuckle as I thought of God telling me to be patient when I get into foot-stomping tantrum mode while waiting on His promises. I was reminded of how the relationship between my child and me mirrors my Heavenly Father's relationship with me. This is one of the moments He began to reveal himself more profoundly as my Father.

I began to think, "What would happen if all God's children undoubtedly realized God is our Father? How much more of an abundant, joyous, and peaceful life would we live if we truly grasped that the creator of the universe is our Father? He loves us unconditionally, keeps His promises, works all things together for our good, and has plans to prosper and not harm us.

Several scripture passages confirm God's role as our Father and our identity as His children.

The Lord's Prayer opens with two attitude-shifting, hope-filled, life-changing, power-packed words that we often gloss over or fail to connect with our hearts, minds, and souls truly: "Our Father." (Matthew 6:9)

Secondly, Galatians 3:26 states, "For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus."

Both passages are beautiful reminders that God is your Father, He is my Father, and we are His children.

While some have had positive interactions with our earthly fathers, making it a little easier to embrace God as Father, some have had experiences that make it challenging to comprehend and accept God as Father. If that's you, God provides comforting words in Psalm 68:5 that He is a father to the fatherless.

Our faithful, faultless, flawless Heavenly Father calls us His children regardless of chronological age. He resides with us on Earth and into eternity to lead, guide, and direct our paths. You are His, and He is yours.

Reflect & Relate

What does it mean to know that God is your Father?

How has your relationship with your earthly father shaped your perspective of our Heavenly Father?

How can embracing your identity as a child of God be transformative?
