God is our CHRO at Work Sample

God is our CHRO at Work

DAY 3 OF 6

God wants us to be a blessing

Wherever we go, whether it is a land flowing with milk and honey or a valley filled with dry bones, the Lord’s intent is always for His people to cause that place to flourish (Jeremiah 29:5-7). God has done so through the lives of Joseph, Boaz and Paul to impact their communities (just to name a few examples). Today, He still desires to work through His people to bless the workplaces and the cities that we are planted in.

Jason Wong, at age 18, before he was a believer, spoke to God, saying, “if you are the One who created me and put me on this earth, please tell me what you want me to do with this life. I do not want to keep walking and only realize years later that I have walked in the wrong direction.” A year later, Wong came to faith when completing his degree in Australia.

As he returned to Singapore, God led him to work for Singapore Prison Service (SPS), a vocation that he did not expect to pursue. The Lord used Wong to transform the prison’s rehabilitation approach – to move beyond its custodial function towards the reintegration of ex-convicts as responsible citizens. This set the stage for Wong to initiate Yellow Ribbon Project in 2004, a nation-wide program, aimed at changing society’s mindset in giving ex-offenders a second chance in life.

Wong’s 24 years working in SPS and later in Ministry of Social and Family Development, where he worked closely with at-risk children and youth, helped him grasp the issues causing youth delinquencies and adult crimes. At age 49, Wong switched career and joined the not-for-profit sector to promote strong families. Then, he started the Dads for Life movement - inspiring, mobilizing, and involving fathers to become good influences in their children’s lives.

God used Wong to reshape a sector in a small city-state, and subsequently moved him to do what is close to the Father’s heart - educating earthly fathers to positively impact their children. God uses willing vessels to bless communities. Imagine God intentionally placing us in places of need to impact the people around us.

When God is the CHRO in our lives, moving us where He desires, we are blessed. Blessings, however, do not stop with us, they are meant to be passed on through the way we serve others.

Questions for reflection:

1. Do you desire God to use you more significantly at work?

2. In what ways do you sense God is using you to bless the community, workplace, and city that you are in?

Let’s invite the Holy Spirit to reveal how we can shift our focus at the marketplace from self to the community, even in challenging places.
