God is our CHRO at Work Sample

God is our CHRO at Work

DAY 2 OF 6

Be open to His will even if we don’t like where we are

Stephen Curry, seven-time NBA All-Stars and two-time NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) recognized that God gave him the talent to play competitive basketball to fulfil His purposes.

Curry was prepared to play for any team when he was competing to be drafted into the National Basketball Association (NBA) in 2009. Nonetheless, Curry and his family preferred that he joined the New York Knicks as it meant playing in a major city. Nevertheless, when Curry learned he was drafted to Golden State Warriors (the seventh pick out of the eight available places), he openly praised the Lord. In an interview, Curry’s mother, Sonya, laughed saying, “But where was Golden State?” Though surprised at the outcome, they believed God had placed him there for a reason.

With Curry on the team, the Warriors won three NBA championship titles in 2015, 2017 and 2018. Curry allowed God to use him to rejuvenate the franchise and to use his success as a platform for his Christian testimony. God is the ultimate CHRO. He knew which team was the best fit for Curry. It might not have looked like it in the beginning (which often is the case) but the dots began to connect as the years went by.

We may not always like where we are, whether it be the company we work for or the city in which we are stationed. God’s Word reminds us, however, to always trust in Him and seek the good of the place in which we are planted.

Israel was held captive by the Babylonians between 597 and 538 BC. Jeremiah 29:4 tells us that God took responsibility for sending them into exile. God was in control of the situation. He had a plan for Israel. It must have been difficult for Israel to still consider the good of the enemy, to seek the peace of the city. But the Lord had the bigger picture.

Questions for reflection:

1. Do you like where you are in your career? Can you see how this season may be part of a preparation for God to use you in the next season?

2. Is it hard to keep trusting Him given the difficult environment at work?

May you invite the Holy Spirit to strengthen you to trust in God’s plan and timing
