Luke: Exploring the Life of Jesus

DAY 2 OF 10

DAY II // THE BIRTH OF JESUS

Picture yourself as a king or queen returning to your homeland after a long journey. How would you make your grand entrance? Would you return in the midst of a huge parade with horses and chariots as the people honor this royal occasion? Or maybe limousines, news reporters, and paparazzi lining the streets is more your style!

Out of his incredible love for his creation, the King of all kings left heaven and came to earth on a mission to show us what God is really like, and to bring forgiveness and freedom for all. Yet this King’s entry into the world that he had created was not what we might have expected. Jesus, in the humblest of circumstances, came to earth as a little baby to an audience of shepherds. And he wasn’t placed in a chariot or luxury car; instead he was wrapped in cloths and was placed in an animal feeding trough.

Yet this was no ordinary baby. Angels from heaven appeared to declare that this child was the Savior, the Messiah, the Lord.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

Q1 //  Why do you think angels appeared to the shepherds?

Q2 //  What are some things that were unique about Jesus’s birth?

Q3 //  The Bible says that God came to earth as a human in Jesus. What does this say about what God is like?

Q4 //  What does it mean to you that God knows exactly what it’s like to be human?

For Next Time: Read Luke Chapter 4-6.
