Why Is Redemption Necessary?

DAY 2 OF 4

Self-justification

In a world where ‘self’ is the starting point of all that people do, the temptation is great to think that you can earn redemption. It seems logical that you have to solve your problems yourself and that working hard ensures a saved life.

But that’s not how it works.

You can’t earn God’s favor by working hard.

Or by keeping yourself to all kinds of rules and Old Testament laws.

You can’t guarantee your redemption yourself.

Yet millions of people call themselves Christian and lay aside Jesus and His loving deed to then want to earn their redemption themselves. They add rules or convictions that have to be executed on top of God’s grace to (be allowed to) keep receiving redemption.

They are actually ‘disregarding’ the finished work of our King Jesus. They essentially say: “Lord, it isn’t enough what You have done on the cross; I have to add something to it.’

That is terrible!

But they are deceived (Galatians 5:4).

It is impossible for you to be ‘redeemed’ from your sinful nature, from your old bound man, by establishing this ‘yourself’

There has not been one person in the whole world – and there have been many who have tried this – who managed to fulfill the law completely and, in doing so, justified himself before God.

No man who could, by working very hard and doing everything right, save and redeem himself. Justifying ourselves is just not possible because that’s what it says in God’s Word (Romans 3:20)!

There is only one thing that you can do: receive your redemption by grace by believing in who Jesus is and what He has done for you. What Jesus has done for us is finished (John 19:30).

It is done. Completed. And that is the only Way (John 14:6).
