The Winning Heart: 7 Heart Expressions to Become a Winner on the Field and in Life

DAY 2 OF 8

Heart Expression One: Trust

Creating The Winning Heart starts with a foundation of trust. On the field, this means trusting teammates and the coaches to do their part in achieving the goal of winning. The best teams and athletes place their trust in the people who help them win. The greater your trust in your coaches and teammates, the greater your success in sports.

Trust is a fundamental aspect of life. Whatever you trust off the field shapes your life's direction. John 10:10 says, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.” Jesus makes it clear in this verse that whoever or whatever you trust can lead you in two directions, towards death or life.

As humans, we tend to focus on our needs and wants, often prioritizing them over what God desires. We seek happiness and fulfillment through material possessions, relationships, and other earthly pleasures. While these things may bring temporary satisfaction, they do not provide lasting peace. Instead of relying on God for salvation, we try to save ourselves through our efforts and go our own way. This is called sin. Our sin creates a chasm between us and God. Yet, God desires a relationship with us because He LOVES us. To forgive us of our sins and reunite us with himself, God sent His Son Jesus to build a bridge for us. Jesus offered His life, dying for our sins, paying for our sins, and giving us new life. Only through putting our trust in Jesus’ death and resurrection can we have a relationship with God and experience true life.

When you trust Jesus, your sins are forgiven, and you are reunited with God. You don't have to pursue earthly pleasures, as God has given you purpose and fulfillment in Him. You no longer need to determine your life’s worth based on your achievements and possessions. God has replaced your addictions with freedom, anxiety with peace, dissatisfaction with joy, and fear with faith. You can live daily and for eternity with God, experiencing real peace, joy, purpose, and fulfillment. Jesus offers you this life. You can choose to trust and follow Him.

Is what you trust leading your heart toward life or death?

What steps do you need to take today to trust God and move toward life?
