The Captive Cause - Discover Your Calling

DAY 5 OF 7

Day 5– Called to Ministry

"Ministry. That’s not for me. I am not a pastor at a church, a kid's leader, a preacher, or a missionary..."

That is not the case. Let’s bust that myth!

Ministry is a whole lot broader than what those people who work for the institution of the church do. In 2 Corinthians 5, Paul tells us that we are all called to the ministry of reconciliation. What does that mean? The ministry of reconciliation is the ministry of us helping other people be reconciled to Christ as we were reconciled to Him when we chose to follow Him. We are all called to be a part of the ministry of helping people to know Christ.

It is also the ministry of reconciling believers to one another so that we might live in the unity of the Spirit.

What does this look like? As the people of God who are in the body of Christ, we are equipped by those who are called to ministry as a vocation (church pastors and leaders). We are also equipped by reading the Word and by the work of the Holy Spirit. When equipped, we outwork this to build up the body (believers together) as well as help people come into a new relationship with Jesus. This is by our words and sometimes more importantly, our actions.

When we are equipped in the house of God to go out and fulfill the great commission and the second greatest commandment, we are ministering. Going into the world and making disciples, or loving our neighbors as we love ourselves, is a huge part of fulfilling the call on our lives to be Jesus' followers, and therefore the work of ministry follows. He will grow the Church if we will make disciples.

You are a minister for God -- a powerful and significant ambassador for Jesus on this earth. This call to ministry starts the moment we say ‘yes’ to Jesus.

Today's Question:

What does it look like for you to minister this week?
