Lifestyles of the Righteous and Favored

DAY 1 OF 3

Merriam Dictionary tells us the meaning of the word lifestyle is, “the typical way of life of an individual, group, or culture.” Another way to think of this on a more personal level is that a person’s lifestyle is the way they choose to live based on the things they value in life.

Whenever I hear the word”‘lifestyle,” I think of a television show that aired in the late 80’s into the early 90’s called, Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous.

In this TV series, the camera crew took viewers on a tour around the homes and properties of some of the richest people in the world. Some were more well-known than others, but all of them graciously agreed to allow strangers into their private space to admire all the things they owned. Basically, we had a bird’s-eye view into what life would be like if we were rich and/or famous.

Today, social media has become the modern day,Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous, and we have to be extremely careful that we don’t believe the lie that our value is defined by the tangible evidence of what we possess. As believers, our lifestyle should be defined by the favor God bestows upon us and the righteous life we choose to live.

And that will be the focus of our time together.

Before we begin, I want to be clear. This devotion is not intended to deter you from becoming rich or famous. In fact, I believe many of our assignments, in and for the Kingdom of God, may warrant us to have influence (fame) and wealth (riches). However, I want to challenge our thinking a bit regarding where our gaze should be as we pursue what God has called us to do.

Pause and ponder: When you think of a person whose lifestyle honored God, what attributes did they have?
