DAY 6 OF 7

The Bible

The Bible is the primary way that we hear from God. From the outside, the bible looks like just a book. Maybe you’ve thought the bible Is the Christian book of rules or a bunch of outdated stories. Good for the odd saying here and there, but irrelevant beyond that. The Bible, in actuality, is a library of writings, written by more than 40 different people over the course of 1,500 years.

The Bible isn’t a golden book that fell out of heaven and isn’t just people’s thoughts on paper. Rather it’s a collection of writings, written in a divine partnership with God by a select group of inspired authors and contributors. It’s filled with histories, poems, ancient law codes, narratives, biographies, letters, that all build a unified story that ultimately leads to Jesus. Initially, the Bible can feel overwhelming and complex to read. But in a similar way that there was a divine partnership when the parts of the bible were written, there is a divine partnership when we read the bible. When you open the Bible, God helps

There are many different ways to read the Bible and hear God speak through His Word. For us, we think the best place to start reading the bible is in one of the biographies of Jesus in the New Testament: Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John. They tell the story of Jesus while he was walking on earth 2000 years ago. So this week, we encourage you, take 5-10 minutes each day to read a passage of the bible. It’s not a race and you’ve got the rest of your life to discover the picture in the mosaic of the bible, so you can take your time reading through the bible. Maybe you read it with your morning coffee, or before you go to bed. Or even at lunchtime at work. The main thing is to keep coming back to it.

Prayer

Jesus, thank you for your Word, the Bible. Help me to hear you as I read. Help me to see you as I study. Remind me of you, and the things I learn as I go through my day.
