Called to Mission

DAY 4 OF 7

Trust: God has ordained our steps

When we are trusting God, we are believing that God is going to do what He said He’ll do in His Word - all of it. While this does assure us a type of peace and love that surpasses human understanding, it doesn’t omit us from the same experiences of suffering that every other human will too encounter and, truthfully, it’s better that way.

Not only is it better, but we see James telling the Jerusalem Church to “Consider it a great joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you experience various trials, because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its full effect, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking nothing”.

So then, if God’s desire is for us to lack nothing, even in our suffering, let us leverage our own free will to trust the one who has done the most to be trusted. Even while we lament and suffer, let us fight to be reminded of the character of God —both that we have read and have experienced firsthand.

Jesus says in John 15:12-13 “This is my command: Love one another as I have loved you. No one has a greater love than this: to lay down his life for his friends”. And the cold thing about it is Jesus did exactly that for us. Through the betrayal of his own people and by state, He did what only He could do – gift us eternal friendship with God.

May we pray that the Lord continues to remove the blinders from our eyes that keeps us from seeing Him as He is — Trustworthy.

Questions to ponder:

  1. How does the belief that God ordains our steps influence my perspective on life's events and decisions? How does it affect my understanding of God's sovereignty in all aspects of my life?
  2. How does the concept of trusting God, even amidst suffering and trials, align with my understanding of faith?
