Why Worship When You Are HurtSample

Why Worship When You Are Hurt

DAY 3 OF 6

When life suddenly descends into desperate chaos without warning, remember to worship God.

Psalm 13:5-6

5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.

6 I will sing the Lord’s praise, for he has been good to me.

Not only did David express his trust in God's unfailing Love and rejoice in His Salvation in Psalm 13, but I also admire another Bible character, Job, who endured pain, suffering, and hurt yet chose to worship God.

Job was described as blameless and upright. He feared God and shunned evil. The Bible states that Job had seven sons, three daughters, 7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, 500 yoke of oxen, 500 donkeys, and numerous servants. In the east, Job was considered the greatest man, and even God testified to his righteousness in Job 1:8, saying, "There is no one on earth like him."

However, Job's life took an unexpected turn. One by one, he lost everything. In his despair, Job got up and fell to the ground in worship, choosing to worship God even in the midst of his suffering.

In Job 1:21-22, he proclaimed, "Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised."

Remarkably, throughout all of this, Job did not sin by accusing God of wrongdoing. How do you respond to God when your life takes sudden and unexpected turns? As you begin to worship God in the face of desperate havoc in your life, without any warning, you will come to understand that you are drawing closer to God.

Prayer

Dear God, thank You for being Sovereign. There's nothing that happens in my life that goes unnoticed by You. You are in control, and You will lead me, as You always have. Amen.
