Good God: Seeing God's Goodness in the Midst of Hard Times

DAY 2 OF 3

DAY TWO- HIS GRACE IS MORE THAN ENOUGH

I remember the first bike that I got without training wheels. I felt like a really big deal, that blue bike with the flames on the side of it, and the big tires made me feel like I was on top of the world. The truth was I felt like I was on top of the world until about ten minutes later when I accidentally scratched my uncle’s truck with my bike and everything stopped. I felt shame, I felt bad, I felt embarrassed. In one moment I felt on top of the world, and the next I was filled with fear. I was only 7 years old at the time but I still remember that feeling inside of me knowing that I had messed up. But the best part of the story is that my uncle didn’t come outside to his truck filled with anger, but instead filled with grace. I didn’t deserve that kindness that day for what happened to his truck, but I received it. In the same way God and his grace is something that we can’t earn through works or being good enough, but it is given to us still.

Let’s rewind all the way back to the first book of the Bible, Genesis. In the beginning God made man and women in His image. Well Adam and Eve were tempted by the devil and choose their own way, thinking that by eating fruit from the tree God said not too that they could be like God too. In one moment, SIN entered the world, and the devil brought shame, and condemnation. Sin is anything that separates us from God.

So how is God good if bad things happen to good people?

We live in a fallen world filled with sin because of what happened in the garden. The truth is we are not saved by our good works or doing good things but only by GRACE THROUGH FAITH.

But guess what we have a good God that chooses to chase after us, that loves us so much that he sent his one and only son JESUS to live a perfect life, to die on a cross for our sins, defeat death, rise up from the grave, all so that we can step back into relationship with him.

In Romans 3:23 it says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” So if all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God then we all need a savior and if we all need a savior then we all need Grace. And that grace has been given to us as a free gift. The question is have you allowed God’s grace to fill your life and heart today. You are not too far gone.

Think about these questions…

What are areas in your life that have separated you from God lately?

What are areas in your life that you need God’s grace to cover?

Grace is not something we deserve but it is what God gives to us.

Grace doesn’t mean keep on sinning it means that we can receive it and then continue to strive toward holiness more and more everyday as we are renewed.

MY CHALLENGE FOR YOU

My challenge for you today…. Memorize the Bible verse Romans 3:23 with me.

“For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” Put this verse on a notecard and place it somewhere that you can see it every day as a reminder that we all need God’s grace." Let's pray...

PRAYER: “Dear God, thank you for your grace. Your grace that covers me, that makes me whole. Thank you for the cross, and that you gave it all to walk in relationship with me. I ask that any area in my life that is not from you that you would help me and refine me to be more like you every day. I believe and know that you are a good God. In Jesus name, AMEN.”
