Finding the Light in Mental Illness

DAY 7 OF 7

DAY 7

OVERCOME

Welcome back to our last day this week. The world may make us feel like something is wrong with us if we struggle with mental illness. The truth is, as we have studied this week, mental illness is the negative internal emotions we feel as we become conflicted between the demonic activity the mind experiences and the godly forces within our hearts.

Not only can this world make us feel like something is wrong with us, but it makes us feel like we are all alone in our struggle. Scripture has helped us realize this week that nothing is wrong with us and that we are not alone as we battle mental illness.

It can be hard to accept the enemy can manipulate us in such a way we become so conflicted that we fall into a mental health diagnosis. However, we can not be naive and assume we are strong enough by ourselves to fight off the enemy. He comes to steal, kill and destroy us, but Jesus comes so that we have life (John 10:10).

Sometimes it is hard for us to realize we are standing in the darkness of a mental illness. This perhaps is because Satan comes to destroy us by putting on sheep’s clothing (Matthew 7:15). By this Scripture, we can understand the enemy’s tactics to rule over us are deceptive, making us think we are doing right by God. Yet, the deception pulls us deeper into the darkness.

Early in Jesus’ ministry, we read about His healing powers over many with physical illness and those who were oppressed by demonic activity, ill with confliction. As Jesus healed those who were oppressed, He cast out the spirits.

The process of these impure spirits leaving us alone is not an easy one. Satan will not win, but he doesn’t go out without a fight.

This week my prayer has been for you to feel peace. In that peace, I pray Satan is frightened because he will not win. You are a child of God; his demonic tactics in ruling over you will never break through God’s protection over your life.

I leave you this week with a verse from a King David Psalm:

17 Evening, morning and noon I cry out in distress, and He hears my voice. 18 He rescues me unharmed from the battle waged against me, even though many oppose me. Psalm 55:17-18

God is with you in every moment of every day. The enemy may attack you in many ways, but he will not win. Your conflict between the demonic activity the mind experiences and the godly force within your heart will turn to peace through God’s rescuing hands. With God, Satan trembles, and you will find peace.

You will find the light.

I pray over you today for peace and invite you to join me on another 3 Minutes A Day Series as we seek to understand other mental health topics alongside Scripture.
