Perfectly Imperfect

DAY 2 OF 3

We are perfect in God’s eyes.

What does being perfect in God’s eyes look like? That’s going to be out the topic of discussion for today. There are numerous ways throughout the Bible in which God shows us how we can become complete and perfect by his standards. A verse I would like to focus on is in the book of Romans, verse 12:2. It is a scripture we can all apply to our lives and will be a good start for our journey to becoming perfect the way God wants us to be.

It tells us not to copy the behaviors and customs of the world but instead let God transform our way of thinking. I can personally tell you that I’ve fallen short by doing this plenty of times. I remember I enjoyed partying, drinking, and idolizing the wrong things in the world. I was living a life that didn’t align with what God wanted for me. Despite what I was doing, God still knew that I was perfect despite my imperfections. How did he know that? In the verse, there is a keyword that should resonate with you every time you feel like your imperfections make you feel unqualified for God’s perfection for your life.

That word is transform. By definition, transform means “make a thorough or dramatic change in the form, appearance, or character of.” Look at the word character. That’s the word I want you all to see from that definition.

In 1 Samuel 16:7, God tells Samuel not to judge by appearance because the Lord doesn’t see things the way we see them. People of the world judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart. With that being said, God isn’t looking at what we have going on outside of us. He doesn’t care about what’s on our bodies, how we wear our hair, or what we once were. God is focused on the heart.

Now to answer the question at hand. How do we become perfect by God? First, it starts with being transformed. Let God transform you, and remember that you were always God’s child. The world may have made you believe that transformation isn’t possible because you already were too deep into your way of thinking, but God is always available for your needs. The moment you are ready to become transformed, I can guarantee God will welcome you with open arms.

Lastly, God created you. You were created perfectly, even though you have imperfections. Even though you may have done things that are not of God, you still are perfect because you were created with the heart of God, and if God judges by the heart, then who is anyone to say that you are not worthy of being perfect in God’s eyes despite the imperfections.
