Launch Into Leadership

DAY 2 OF 5

While Jesus is the most easily recognizable leader within the Bible, there are many other individuals who displayed exceptional leadership skills and understanding.

Remember that the Bible is the blueprint for our lives. In it, we find the answers to questions that people have been asking themselves since time began. Leading others may be new to you, but it isn’t new to the world or to the Lord.

Remember also that God does not call the qualified; he qualifies the called.

Moses did not believe himself to be a leader. He offered excuse after excuse to God. He believed that there must have been a mistake. God must have been wrong because there was no way that Moses could save the Israelites and lead them out of Egypt.

God, however, knew otherwise.

Despite his fear, his lack of confidence, despite a speech impediment that made communication difficult, Moses rose to the occasion when it was time.

How could a simple slave have the boldness to approach the pharaoh and command him to let his people go?

Because Moses was anything but a simple slave. Moses was a leader.

Though he did not yet know this, Moses was willing to stand up for his people. He was willing to put himself in harm's way in order to do what was right for the team. He set aside the “me” for the “we.” He was willing to step up and lead, and he found the confidence by knowing that God Himself had appointed Moses to do this great thing.

Moses had his flaws. He had moments of weakness and moments of doubt. Although Moses was not perfect, on this day in Egypt, he stirred hope.

He brought forth an idea to the Israelites:

“What if?”

Good leaders present the possibilities to their team. They motivate their team because they appeal to their heart. On this day in Egypt, Moses appealed to the heart of the Israelites.

And before nightfall, there was an awakening that started in Egypt. One that even a pharaoh could not get in the way of.

Leaders don’t accept their circumstances for what they are. They get their team to see the possibilities of what could be.

And then, those circumstances begin to change.
