Triumphing over flesh and sinSample

Triumphing over flesh and sin

DAY 5 OF 7

I can make my flesh die

As long as we are here on earth, we will have this cohabitation between the flesh and the spirit within us. We will be delivered from it in heaven (Rom8:23-25). But for now, cohabitation does not mean that our flesh must share the direction of our lives with our spirit or that sin must reign in us. NO!

We must follow the Holy Spirit, our obedience bringing His reign in us.

Moreover, our obedience to the Holy Spirit causes the flesh within us to die.

To make the flesh die does not mean that we should flagellate, punish or mistreat ourselves. The death of the flesh is a direct result of our submission to the Holy Spirit.

Understand this: your flesh becomes stronger every time you obey its desires, every time you yield to sin. In short, sin feeds your flesh and makes it stronger.

On the other hand, when you obey the Holy Spirit, it weakens, you make it “starve”.

Have you noticed that it is harder to pray or read the Bible when you haven't done so for a few days? This is because your flesh has grown stronger while your spirit has grown weaker.

On the other hand, when you regularly spend time with God, feeding on His Word, temptations lose their power over you, because your flesh is weaker and your spirit stronger!
