Billy Graham on Money

DAY 4 OF 4

It’s all God’s

“God does not need our money. He owns everything, including “our” money. What He wants [us] to discover is where our central focus of worship lies. Is that focus on God or our money?”

When we understand that everything in this world is God’s, it changes how we make decisions.

“We can possess nothing—no property and no person…It is God who owns everything, and we are but stewards of His property during the brief time we are on earth.”

I’ve always found it quite a different experience spending someone else’s hard-earned money than my own. So if the boss had me run out and buy lunch for the office, it was painless because it wasn’t my money I was spending, but it was his.

I have better understood that God has entrusted me as a manager of His money to spend according to His wishes. It has made giving so much easier and more fun.

Beyond that, it also provides more comfort that as His servant (or manager), it is His responsibility to take care of me and my needs.

My job is to manage what I have been entrusted with to the best of my ability and obey when He gives me specific instructions.

I’ll admit that it can be easy to lose sight of this with day-to-day spending, but I am always trying to remind myself that God owns it all because we are all at our best when we are operating in that awareness.

God, help me always be aware that I am the manager of the resources you have entrusted to me. May I continue to grow to become a better and more trustworthy manager. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
