Fasting for a breakthroughSample

Fasting for a breakthrough

DAY 2 OF 3

Turn to God

In fasting, take time to worship God. It is his manifest presence, which is drawn to your worship, that will make the difference in your situation.

In Psalm 33, the psalmist recalls the greatness of God. I invite you to meditate on it and to declare it aloud in your time of fasting.

First of all, he remembers the faithfulness of the Lord (Ps 33:5). Indeed, one fasts and prays by faith because God is faithful to his promises, otherwise, prayer is useless.

He then considers the greatness of the Creator (Ps 33:6). This is why praying in nature can strengthen your faith; you will then realize that nothing is too great for God who created everything.

He then positions himself as the Roman officer who comes to Jesus and says, "Say just one word and my servant will be healed.” He remembers that when God speaks, it happens (Ps 33:9). What did God say to you? Why don't you take the time to listen to him? It will be easier for you to pray based on what he has told you, on the expression of his will.

When we feel alone or surrounded by enemies, we can also remember that God alone can stand up to an entire nation (Ps 33:10). By fasting, I enter into the intimacy of God and I am, with him, the majority.

Finally, the psalmist relies on the testimonies of God's acts in history (Ps 33:11). The Lord does not change. Take time to look back in your heart at all that God has done for you. This is an opportunity to write your story with God (or at least the highlights), and it will be a powerful source of encouragement every time you read it again.

I pray that your faith will be strengthened, that hope will be reborn in your heart as you contemplate God during your fast.
