DAY 6 OF 7

The (un)Natural Mom of Pine Tree Place

Imagine yourself on a nature walk through a pine forest. It is cool, and the carpet of pine needles muffles most sounds. All you hear is the occasional snapping of a twig under your feet. You have the urge to spread a picnic blanket under the trees and linger a little. This is what people with a Pine Tree temperament are like: they are on a leisurely journey (or would like to be), are naturally unruffled, and have a calming effect on the rest of us. In a manner of speaking, Pine Trees have the calm of the forest inside them.

Once I wanted to uproot a small pine tree from the open field next to a nursery. I planned to display it during my seminars. The owner of the nursery had a good laugh when he saw my tiny plastic spade. He assured me that the roots were so deeply anchored that I would never be able to uproot even a small seedling with my inferior equipment. Pine Tree people are the same: strongly rooted, stubborn in a quiet way, and not eager to be transplanted.

Have you ever driven past a plantation of pine trees and called out, “Wow, look at that magnificent tree third from the left in row number five!” I’ll bet you haven’t, because one tends to see the collective greenery, not individual trees. In the same way, people with Pine Tree temperaments can go unnoticed, blending in with their surroundings. They don’t advertise themselves and are perfectly happy to be in the background.

Just as pine trees are seldom found alone and are associated with Christmas celebrations and family gatherings, people with Pine Tree characteristics are attached to their nearest and dearest and are fond of tradition. Many of us grow up around a pine dining room table. The Pine Tree personality has the same desire to bring people together in a loving and peaceful circle. Even though they are not as outgoing as the Palm Trees in another neck of the woods, they love being with people as much.

The Pine Tree temperament corresponds well with the phlegmatic temperament and also with the personality type S (supportive, steady, sincere) of the DiSC indicator.
