Watermark Gospel | The Birth of Jesus

DAY 3 OF 3

The Gospel Connections

Gospel Connections

Gospel Connections are the links between a biblical story and the gospel of Jesus. Review the Gospel Connections below and learn how to find Jesus in every story of the Bible.

Gospel Connection 1

1. The birth story is told through the eyes of Mary of Nazareth and Joseph of Bethlehem (Luke 2:4-5).

1. The resurrection story is told through the eyes of Mary of Magdala and Joseph of Arimathea (Luke 23:50; 24:10).

Gospel Connection 2

2. The story centers around the fact that Jesus comes forth from a virgin womb, which had "not known a man" (Luke 1:34).

2. The story centers around the fact that Jesus came forth from a "virgin" tomb, where "no man had lain" (Luke 23:53).

Gospel Connection 3

3. After his birth, Jesus is wrapped in swaddling bands (which would have given him a mummiform appearance) and then laid in a rock-hewn manger (which would have resembled a sarcophagus) (Luke 2:7).

3. After his death, Jesus is wrapped in burial bands and then laid in a rock-hewn tomb (Luke 23:53).
