God's Will Is Not Lost

DAY 2 OF 5

David and Goliath is a very familiar story that even the majority of non-Christians know. It has all the ingredients of the kinds of stories we like: an unlikable villain, an unlikely hero, and a triumphant victory of good over evil.

But there's one thing that we often miss in how we often tell of this event, which affects what we remember. So in our minds, it's easy to glamorize the opportunity we may have to slay our own giant someday or to stand up for God in the face of incredible opposition.

But David didn't go to the battle to fight Goliath. Read 1 Samuel 17:17-20 again.

David went to the battle:

1) to obey his father.

2) to deliver food to his brothers and the army commanders.

3) to check on his brothers.

David's simple obedience allowed God to use him powerfully beyond what he had planned.

Don't miss this: You don't have to look for a giant to fight or something "big" to accomplish. God's work is always big because God is big. The size of the task doesn't matter; the size of our God does.

Show up in the simple.

Obey in the ordinary.

Be willing.

Be ready.

Trust God for the rest.

God, forgive me for overlooking the ordinary, everyday opportunities I have to serve You. Help me to show up. Increase my readiness. Help me to obey joyfully and quickly. Amen.
