DAY 5 OF 11

Where can I find God?

“You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews.” (John 4:22)

When the woman had perceived that Jesus was a prophet, she asked Him a burning question: where can I find God? The Samaritans were convinced that God could be found on the mountain Gerizim, where they had built their temple. The Jews were sure God dwelled in the temple in Jerusalem. So, this woman asked, which one is true? Where can I find God?

Jesus says that a new era is coming when people will not worship God in one of these temples anymore. But He also confirms that the Jews know more about finding God than any other people group.

Abraham, the common ancestor of both Jews and Samaritans, was blessed by God. In his turn, he should be a blessing to the nations. This prophecy and commission were ultimately fulfilled in Jesus’ death and resurrection, which reconciles people from all nations with God. But Abraham’s descendants also had the task to tell others about the Lord. No other nation knew so much about His rules and statutes. God says that people from all languages and nations will come and ask the Jews: “Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you” (Zechariah 8:23).

Do you believe that God can be found by people? How is this possible?
