God's love and justice

DAY 3 OF 4

Personal God

Thus says the Lord, “Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord who exercises loving kindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things,” declares the Lord.

God is looking for the man or woman who thirsts to know Him. He is looking for the person who longs to be close to Him, to be one of His intimates, to know Him personally. This is not a person who is enamored by wisdom, money, or riches. This person will not be enamored by the things the world is enamored with, nor be overly impressed by the wealthy and the powerful, by the Larry Ellisons and the Warren Buffetts of the world.

This person will not be awed by those who are mighty in athletic performance, by the Kobe Bryants and the Usain Bolts of the world. Nor will this person be unduly moved by scholars and writers who accumulate degrees and publish works. No, this is a person who has caught a glimpse of glory, who breathes the breath of eternity, who has seen God and never recovered.

This is a person who is impressed with God Himself—with the Creator, not his creatures. This person longs to know God, understand God, and be close to God. He or she knows that God is the Lord, the almighty and sovereign God. This person knows that God is the God of steadfast love, justice, and righteousness on earth. This is the person who knows that God is good and great, and it is the privilege of our lives to know Him. Where are the people like this? The people who thirst to know God?

To know God is our highest good and deepest joy. To know God is more life-giving and soul-thrilling than anything else. To know God is our purpose, our mission, and our life. To know God is the glory of a human life.
