Work And Success Can't Buy Happiness

Now set your heart and your soul to seek the Lord your God. Therefore, arise and build the sanctuary of the Lord God, to bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord and the holy articles of God into the house that is to be built for the name of the Lord. (1 Chronicles 22:19)

Rick Chollet was a successful businessman until March 18, 1991. He even became the president of Brookstone - a mail-order business that he managed to turn into a national retail leader selling artisan products. However, on March 18, Rick Chollet locked the garage door of his New Hampshire home, sat in the seat of his BMW, and started the engine. He left a letter that read, "I'm sorry, but the thought that I have to go through the torments of life is too much for me."

Some successful entrepreneurs fear that they will not be able to reproduce or maintain the success they once had. Gerald Kraines, a psychiatrist for Rick Chollet, said, "They run on a treadmill where they can never taste their success because they keep working hard." Many Christians feel the same way. They think they have to work harder for God and forget to set aside time to be with Him.

Reflection: We may ask, "how can we receive the joy that comes from God and happiness?" It's simple. You need to come to God in prayer, meditate on His Word, hold fast to the promises in His Word, and soon, you will have a joy that nothing and no one can take away.

Some people chase happiness. And some people choose happiness.
