Finding Freedom in JesusSample

Finding Freedom in Jesus

DAY 7 OF 12

Freedom from pressure to keep up appearances

Not only do many people try to impress fellow humans, we often try to keep up appearances before God as well. That’s absolutely senseless, since He discerns our thoughts from afar (Psalm 139:2) and He knew us already before we were born (Psalm 139:15-16). We can’t hide our worst thoughts or our most shameful moments from Him.

But actually, this is not a problem if we are a child of God! It is rather liberating that God knows what is within our heart. David asks the Lord:

“Search me, O God, and know my heart!

Try me and know my thoughts!” (Psalm 139:23)

He is totally comfortable with God knowing him so well.

The letter to the Romans explains that God loved us at our worst. Jesus was ready to die in our place “while we were still sinners” and “while we were enemies”. He knows how sinful we are, but this does not prevent Him from loving us deeply.

He is not surprised when we stumble into sin, although this does grieve Him. It is neither possible nor desirable to hide our sin from Him. Rather, we should confess as soon as possible to restore our relationship with God.

Are you always honest before God?
