Day 6: Press On

Now that we’ve looked at examples from the Bible, examined our own regrets through prayer, and learned from our mistakes in order to grow, we are ready to press on by focusing on Jesus.

Regrets and problems can be completely overwhelming, if all we do is focus on them. Many are too big for us to solve, and they can be greatly discouraging when we can’t win.

So we must, no matter how deep the regret, lay it all at Jesus’ feet and give Him complete control. The best way to do this is by telling Him exactly what we’re giving to Him and admitting we can’t do it on our own. Let Him know all of your frustrations and fears.

And once you do that, release yourself of feeling obligated to fix it. As long as you’ve done all you can, trust that it’s in God’s hands, and He will make of it whatever He will. When you feel yourself attempting to take control again, go back to Him and release it to Him all over again.

When you don’t know what to do next, focus on how you can seek God and His Kingdom. He will show you what’s next and take care of anything you’re missing.

In the opening to this devotional we talked about how regret can make us feel like we’re stuck in quicksand–unable to move forward while being pulled from under at the same time. And just like real quicksand, the best way to get out is to move slowly and deliberately towards God.

Take your time going through the examples and steps we’ve talked about. Go through them multiple times if you have to. Find other examples in scripture and study them. Always look to God first and be completely honest with Him. He’s the one who knows the way because He is the Way.
