The Called
Romans 8:28 NKJV
A calling is either an invitation from God or a divine mandate.
There are three primary levels:
First, the whole world is called to salvation.
Second, the entire church is called for the process of being transformed into the Lord’s image.
Third, each individual Christian is called to fulfill a distinct purpose in advancing and establishing the kingdom of God in this world.
Our theme scripture explains that we are “the called” according to God’s “purpose.”
When Jesus manifested Himself to Saul on the road to Damascus, not only was it for Saul to be saved, but that he might know the purpose of God for his life. The revealed, divine design regarding his future was exactly what Paul became—an apostle sent by God to the Gentiles to turn them from darkness to light, from the power of Satan to the power of God. This inspired writer of fourteen epistles in the New Testament was not part of some elite group of advanced believers who alone can claim the status of being “called.” Every child of God falls under this heading. In many different ways, we are all called to perpetuate the works of Jesus, ministering to fellow believers and to the world outside Christianity. We can do it, for the Almighty gave us grace to fulfill His purpose before time began.
The Son of God is not here now (physically speaking) but we are—and He lives in us. God’s calling is all about the Lord also living through us—that we might be His heart expressed, His hands extended and His voice, communicating the Gospel to our generation.
DECLARE WHO YOU ARE IN CHRIST
I declare that I am one of the called! I was given a purpose in the Lord Jesus before time began. I have received a sufficient amount of grace, power and gifts to fulfill that purpose. No weapon formed against me shall prosper. All things will work together for my good. My highest calling is to be conformed to the image of the firstborn Son of God. In great gratitude I have determined to walk worthy of the calling and to daily reach for the prize of the high calling of God (the maximum manifestation of my potential), in Jesus’s name, Amen!
