Trust Me

DAY 4 OF 33

A Generational God

Read: “Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen… All these people died still believing what God had promised them. They did not receive what was promised, but they saw it all from a distance and welcomed it…” (Hebrews 11:1, 13)

Think: Hebrews 11 is filled with examples of people who lived with great faith in the promises of God. They understood that “it is impossible to please God without faith” and if they were to come to God they “must believe that God exists, and that He rewards those who sincerely seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6). They were not perfect or free from doubt, yet they lived with a confident hope that God would keep His promises and reward them, even if that reward would only be realized in a coming generation (i.e. Hebrews 11:22) or in Heaven after they were dead and gone (i.e. Hebrews 11:10, 13-16, 24-26).

Apply: Holding out hope can be hard. Maybe you’ve faithfully served God only to watch your life unravel. Possibly you stepped out, following what you heard God ask of you, only to end in financial ruin or lost relationships. Perhaps the person that led you to Christ abused you. Now you’re left questioning what’s real. Wherever you are today, may you make the bold choice to seek God and confidently hold on to the reward He has promised you. Consider meditating on the possibility that God’s promises to you may only come true in heaven or in the life of your great-grandkids.

Pray: Father, help me not to lose sight of my eternal reward. Deepen my trust in you and your perfect plan. Amen
