Insecurity: The Lies and the Truth of It.

DAY 6 OF 7

Years ago when my youngest daughter was still in diapers, my husband and I would frequently take weekend trips up to the mountains to play in the snow. During one trip, we had stopped on the side of the road to do a diaper change for my youngest. We didn’t have anywhere to throw away the dirty diaper, so I put it in a plastic cup that only had a little water left in it. I put the lid back on it and placed it back in the cup holder. After being back on the road for a bit, my husband picked up that cup and DRANK IT before I could tell him what was actually in it. Yep, my husband got a mouthful of dirty diaper water. Insert puke emoji here.

Sometimes when we are on long road trip of insecurity, we get so thirsty for something, so hungry for something, that we begin to get desperate to fill our emptiness, and we look to anything to fill us up. In my husband's case, it was literal crap, but in our cases it can be figurative crap.

Sometimes we fill our emptiness with food, shopping, or even things like social media.

When we aren’t sure of our true identity, we can often try to fill up on these things that we think might help, but they keep us wanting more instead.

Think about the difference of filling up on your favorite indulgent treat every day versus filling up on healthy food. We might still be full either way, but when we eat healthy food, we are energized not weighed down; we are fueled not sinking into our couches, and we feel good about ourselves instead of entertaining thoughts and feelings of guilt or shame for eating poorly.

And typically, when we are full on junk food, we are not hungry for healthy food, right? So, we not only are we filled with junk, but we also then have no room for the healthy foods.

When we fill our minds with unhealthy words or thoughts, with insecurities, with doubts, or with negativity about ourselves, we don’t leave much room for us to understand who we ARE.

What are you currently filling up on that is taking away space from being full of God’s truth?

God wants us to experience the fullness and richness of Christ.

About this Plan

Insecurity: The Lies and the Truth of It.

Why is it so easy to believe who we aren’t instead of who we are? We’ve accepted the lie that we are unworthy and not enough. We’ve gotten comfortable with being uncomfortable in our skin. It’s time to breakout of that...
