Last week, we read from Genesis 3 and God’s response to Adam in the garden after they ate from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good & Evil. Now, we read what takes place between God and Eve.
The serpent didn’t choose to first deceive Adam—no, he chose to go after the woman. But why? It’s been said that Lucifer (Satan, the Devil, the Enemy) was the most beautiful of all the angels in heaven. The most beautiful of all of God’s creation. Pride grew in Lucifer, which had caused him to fall from heaven.
When God created Woman—Lucifer knew he was no longer the most beautiful and grew jealous of her. His intention was to destroy good, destroy peace and destroy her. And he thought he succeeded when Eve fell victim to his manipulation. However, he didn’t win, as we know, since God in His infinite grace disciplined them lovingly, provided garments for Adam and Eve and let them live.
