Stand Out: Living for Christ in a Corrupt World

DAY 1 OF 12

Called to Be Saints

When the Bible refers to us as “saints,” does that mean we are completely holy? Before we answer that question, let’s briefly look at the introduction of 1 Corinthians.

Apostle Paul wrote this letter to the Christians in Corinth around 54 AD. The city of Corinth was located on an important trade route. It had a reputation for sexual immorality, religious diversity, and corruption. The church at Corinth struggled under these influences. So, Paul writes this letter to the Corinthians to address several issues there.

1:1-9: In 1 Corinthians 1:1-19, Apostle Paul greets the Corinthians (vv. 1-3). Then in verses 4-9, he expresses thanks to God for blessing the Corinthians with speech, knowledge, and spiritual gifts.

Though the Corinthian church had many problems, apostle Paul calls them “sanctified” and “saints.” In their status, they were sanctified and saints, but they had to practically live a sanctified life each day. Saints, let's live according to our calling!

Prayer: Lord, help us to live according to our holy calling.

Day 2

About this Plan

Stand Out: Living for Christ in a Corrupt World

The first epistle to the Corinthians covers several issues that are relevant to Christians today. By drawing lessons from 1 Corinthians 1-7, Dr. David Mende encourages us to live for Christ in a corrupt world.
