How to Have a Peaceful ChristmasSample

How to Have a Peaceful Christmas

DAY 4 OF 4

He Came

One of the main ways to have God’s peace this holiday season is to be diligently aware of what you’re thinking about.

When you catch yourself feeling caught up in stress or fear, stop and ask yourself, “What have I been thinking about?” And then purposefully put your thoughts on some of the things we’ve talked about in this plan. You can take charge of what you’re thinking (2 Corinthians 10:5) and let peace reign in your heart and mind.

One thing I’ve been thinking about a lot this holiday season is: "He came."

God loved us so much He didn't just call out "I love you1" from heaven... no, He came to be with us here on earth.

He wanted so much to rescue us from sin, restore us to fellowship, heal us, provide for us, give us joy and leave us His peace that He didn't trust the job to angels or prophets or anyone else. No, He Himself – God in the flesh – came to earth.

He didn't have to do that, but He did. First Timothy 1:15 says, Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.

He came for you and for me! That thought above all else can bring you peace. The King of kings and Lord of lords, who had been with the Father since the beginning of time, gave up heaven to come to earth for only one reason -- to save us.

That's amazing to me, isn’t it to you? It makes me so grateful.

You and I don't serve a far-away God.  We are the children of a God who loves us so much He came to get us when we didn't deserve it.

He came from heaven to earth to make His home right inside us (John 14:17).  He is Emmanuel – God with us. He's not looking at us from far off -- He's become one of us. He completely understands who we are and what we need: This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin (Hebrews 4:15).

This Christmas as we celebrate His coming, I pray this truth dawns on your spirit more than ever before. You have His peace. You are loved. Not by Someone far off, but by One who's name is Emmanuel - God with us. Thank God, He came!

About this Plan

How to Have a Peaceful Christmas

Peace is a word we often hear at Christmas time. We can hear strains of Silent Night in our head — “sleep in heavenly peace.” Or maybe we see Luke 2:14 quoted about Jesus’ birth: “Peace on earth, goodwill toward men.” Bu...
