Can I Change God’s Mind Through Prayer?

DAY 5 OF 5

Prayer Changes the World

Prayer is not only God’s instrument for Christians to use in their personal lives. Of course, we should pray for change in our circumstances, for God’s provision of the things we need, and for the fulfillment of our heart’s desires. There is, however, another reason God gave us the power of prayer. We must pray for His Kingdom to be extended on this earth through the Gospel. Christ taught His disciples how to pray in what is known as “the Lord’s prayer.” There, Jesus said that we should ask for God’s Kingdom to come and His will to be done on this earth as it is in heaven. In other words, prayer is an instrument of evangelism.

There are two ways in which the Bible instructs us to pray when it comes to the expansion of the Gospel. First, we need to pray for more Christian ministers who will preach the Good News. Christ told us to pray to the Father to send more workers of His Kingdom into the harvest field of this world. In the Book of Acts, the disciples prayed for increased boldness, as well as signs and wonders to accompany them as they preached God’s truth. This boldness would help them to share the Gospel despite persecution. The Apostle Paul also asked his fellow believers to pray that he would preach the good news of salvation fearlessly.

Secondly, the Bible instructs us to pray for the hearts of unbelievers. God desires the whole world to be saved. That is why Christ died for everyone. However, the world lies in darkness under the sway of Satan. Therefore, Scripture instructs us to pray for people who do not know Jesus to be receptive to the Gospel. Jesus said that no one comes to salvation unless the Father draws this person. We need to pray that the Holy Spirit will prepare people’s hearts to receive the truth. We also need to pray that workers of the Gospel will minister to certain people who do not know Jesus. Finally, we need to pray for the eyes of unbelievers to be opened to the truth of God’s Word so that they can turn away from darkness and receive forgiveness of sins.

Prayer truly is the most powerful weapon given to us by our Heavenly Father. It can change our lives and the world around us. Prayer brings God’s will and God’s Kingdom into every human circumstance.
