A Mom's Identity In ChristSample

A Mom's Identity In Christ

DAY 3 OF 5

Day 3: Making our Husband, Kids & Home-Life Our Idols

Never forget that our God is a jealous God. In Exodus 20 we are clearly told to not have gods besides him. He is the ONE TRUE GOD. It is so easy to allow the overwhelm of love that we have for our husband and children take precedence over God. Think about it when you hold that sweet little human in your hands and a rush of love floods in. When I experience joy in my husband and in my children’s eyes, I feel such a level of comfort and satisfaction. Can you imagine that God loves every single one of us just like that and more?!

If we as moms put everything from school lunches, the brilliance of our children, everything our husbands want and need above our love and relationship with God, we are setting ourselves up for an ungodly way of life. This is where stewardship comes in. Taking care of our household and everything that falls underneath that is a form of stewardship. We are called to take care of all of these things but we must never forget the order in which we are to prioritize: God, husband, and children, everything else. If you find yourself not prioritizing prayer, studying and discipleship before your husband and children, it is time to shift the balance. Listen, I'm not telling you anything that I believe will be so easy. It can be a daily struggle but that is when you pray and ask God for wisdom and a spirit of balance in your everyday life. I am most certainly guilty when I am exhausted and tapped out, of falling into a couch and binge watching Netflix instead of studying. My brain is just exhausted and I very well could ask God for endurance where I can find rest in Him. Whether it is studying, listening to worship music or listening to a sermon or podcast, endurance takes practice coupled with prayer. In 1 John 5:20-21, John warns us to guard ourselves from idols. If your husband, children, and home are not your idol,  ask yourself truly; do I have an idol? If so, why? Is it the root of another issue? What am I going to do to remove this idol and put God at the head of my life? God wants true intimacy with you so you will find your purpose in him.

Prayer: Jesus you are the Prince of Peace. Lord help me find peace and balance so that I might put you first and not things of this world. Help me to steward my life as you want me to carry each day out, in your will not mine. Free me from any idols that I might possess. The ones that I know of and those that I am not aware of.

Questions to Ask Yourself:

1.  What are your idols? Do they convict your heart?

2.   Would it change things to know your idols could never hold as much weight or joy and peace as our savior does?
