What did Jesus mean when He said, “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:21)? And why does God want our money anyway? The answer to both of these questions lies in this simple truth: God knows that as we give freely and willingly to Him, we give not just our money – but our hearts, too. And that’s just the way He wants it.
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
- Audit time: where does your “treasure” currently lie? In other words, what are you using your money for?
- “God is not sweating on your cash or mine to advance His Kingdom.” What is your response to Berni’s point here? Do you agree? Why or why not?
- Do you think of God’s Kingdom first when making decisions about money, or is it more of an afterthought?
- Spend some time reading and meditating on Jesus’ teachings in Matthew chapter 6. It’s a rich source of wisdom about money and your relationship with it. Ask God to speak to you through His Word as you read.
