DAY 2 OF 5

Implement Wisdom in Life and Relationships

We need wisdom every day. God wants us to have wisdom, and He promises to give it to us (see James 1:5). There are five ways in which I have found wisdom to be the most effective in my own life.

If we want to be wise, we must be flexible. If we try to bend something that is stiff, it may break. It is the same way with us. Life is always changing, and many people fight that change. If we let ourselves become ruffled and irritated by every change that comes our way, we will live a life of turmoil; instead, become flexible.

It is also wise to forgive quickly and refuse to carry an offense. Dealing with people at an intimate and personal level requires an abundance of grace. We can pour our lives into people, and they can turn around, walk out on us, and forget how to spell our names. Rejection and ingratitude are very real, and we must have wisdom to forgive and walk in love.

When we walk in wisdom, God will take what looks like a disadvantage and turn it into an advantage. In all the Muslim countries to which I have traveled, being a woman could have been seen as a disadvantage, but for me, God turned it into an advantage. They underestimated me. They looked at me as a stupid woman; they were convinced that I couldn’t do anything to hurt anyone. God used that to open the door for me to share His love and healing power.

If we are wise, we will love people. We must ask God to give us a genuine love for people that causes us to really walk in love with them. In whatever we do, the love of Christ must be the foundation, the center, the ultimate objective. When the day is done, and the dust settles, we must ask ourselves if we revealed the love of Christ to the people we met that day.

If we are wise, we will avoid comparison because it makes us dissatisfied with our lives. If we find ourselves tempted to compare our lives with others, we must look to God. He is the only One to Whom we should compare ourselves. It can be hard, but if we can keep from being infected with criticism, comparison, and competition, we will be more content and satisfied.

First Corinthians 1:30 says, “…Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God...” The Lord never gets tired of us asking for wisdom, and He is always faithful to give us the wisdom we need.
