Divine Time Management

DAY 2 OF 6

Entrusting Your Time to God

Trust is defined as a “firm belief in the reliability, truth or ability of someone or something.” The word is used over 150 times in the Bible. One of the central themes in the Bible is trust in the Lord. When people in the Bible trusted God, they experienced His best. When they trusted in anything other than God, they didn’t.

Jeremiah 17:7-8 (NIV) promises these blessings for those who trust in the Lord:

“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord,

whose confidence is in him.

They will be like a tree planted by the water

that sends out its roots by the stream.

It does not fear when heat comes;

its leaves are always green.

It has no worries in a year of drought

and never fails to bear fruit.”

So what exactly does it look like to really trust God with our time? As Christians, we often think to ask God for help when it comes to big decisions such as which job to take, where to move, or whether to marry someone. But we can often forget to ask God to lead us by the hand in the day-to-day details of our lives.

Here are a few ways in which we can put trust in God at the center of our time management:

  • De-clutter your schedule: Go through all of the activities in your life. Pray through where you should spend more or less time.

  • Invest in your relationship with God: Spend daily time in Bible study and prayer as a way to connect with your Heavenly Father and give Him any burdens you bear.

  • Rest in God: Take time for a Sabbath day off each week and other times of rest as an act of trust in God’s care for you.

  • Let go: If you tend toward over-responsibility for others, ask God to help you to trust His love for the people who you care about. If you tend toward a task orientation, ask God to help you be more flexible and open to care for others’ needs.

As Christians, our use of time and our peace with time should demonstrate that we trust in God and not ourselves when it comes to time management.

Divine Time Management

Traditional time management can cause stress when the goal is to get life "under control" by our own strength and self-discipline. But the Bible tells us we receive peace and rest when we trust God with our time. In this...
