Reading the Bible in Historical Sequence Part 7

DAY 4 OF 31

726 BC Isaiah predicts that Assyria will sweep through Philistia. Nahum warns Assyria and the Northern Kingdom that God will break those who work against Him. In the Southern Kingdom, King Hezekiah opens up the Temple, cleans and repairs it and invites Jews in adjacent countries to celebrate the Passover.

Note 1 (2 Chronicles 29:3): Ahaz had closed the Temple and worshiped Assyria’s god (2 Chronicles 28:23–24). Hezekiah in the first year of his reign, 727 BC, repaired and reopened the Temple.

Note 2 (2 Chronicles 30:1): Hezekiah invites the remnants of the northern tribes to take part in the Passover festival, the first national celebration of the feast since Solomon’s reign.
