Phil Roberton's GOD IS NOT DEAD 5- Day Devotional

DAY 4 OF 5

Jesus never meant for his message to be contained within a building or confined to a service. He came to seek and save the lost, and where were the lost? They were out in the streets. The lost were the everyday businessmen, the fishermen, the women working at home. The lost were the children running through the streets. The lost were the beggars, the crippled, and the leprous. They were the tax collectors, prostitutes, and sinners. So, though Jesus preached from time to time in the synagogue, he spent most of his time spreading his good news where the people were—in the world. In fact, Jesus was among the people so much that the religious teachers of the day took issue with it. They asked why he spent so much time with tax collectors and sinners. They called him a drunkard because he attended parties where sinners were. They watched as he spent time with women—women with bad reputations at that. Time and time again, they took issue with just how in the world   Jesus was. But as Jesus went, he wasn’t compartmentalizing his faith. He was out there preaching. And what was he preaching? Freedom.

Freedom from sin.

Freedom from death.

Freedom from religious obligation.

Freedom to worship the Almighty everywhere, all the time. . . .

Time and time again, Jesus showed the disciples how to carry the good news out to the dying world. They followed him from town to town as he preached forgiveness of sins, healed the sick, and performed miracles. They watched as he shared the truth around dinner tables. They were even sent out to the countryside to preach the good news to the people (Matt. 10; Luke 10). And after his resurrection from the dead, just before his ascension to the Father, he left his people with one parting instruction. “Go,” he said, “and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you” (Matt. 28:19–20).

Go.

Outside the four walls of any building.

Out into the world.

Out to the places where the people are.

Go to the public schools and places of employment and the voter booth. Go, go, go and mix it up with the people, sharing the absolute truth of the Almighty with grace.
