30 Wisdom Sayings

DAY 4 OF 30

SAYING 4: USE YOUR MONEY WISELY

Did your parents warn you against credit card debt or the overuse of your ATM card? We have an interesting relationship with money.

The wise sage in this proverb was instructing us not to make promises we will regret financially.

We are not to co-sign a loan if we do not have the means to pay the debt.  If the borrower has no way to repay the loan and turns to you to make good on the co-sign agreement and you are unable to make payment,  then your possessions may suddenly be repossessed.

This is a cautionary tale of being overly eager to help a friend and the willingness becomes a debt sentence which will most assuredly affect your future success.  Living in community in a healthy manner does not always mean saying, ‘Yes.’  Wisely, when asked to front the money, ‘NO’ may be an adequate response.  Money commitments can be tests of friendships, so be careful what you promise.

Help friends as you can financially, and when you are unable, then say a loving, ‘No.’ The scriptures tell us to “let your yes be yes and your no be no.”  Have convictions and stay committed to them as you navigate the choppy waters of money management.

No one wants to sleep on the floor.  Be a wise steward.

- Pastor Kim McManus
