Achieving Faith

DAY 3 OF 3

Achieving faith requires action.

“For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead” (James 2:26).

When God told Abraham about His plan to destroy Sodom, Abraham knew Lot would be in trouble if he didn’t do something—so he prayed. Abraham’s intercession to save the righteous in Sodom prompted God to respond:

“And the Lord said, “If I find at Sodom fifty righteous in the city, I will spare the whole place for their sake” (Genesis 18:26).

Even with Abraham's confidence in being heard, he knew his appeal for the righteous would align with God.

“And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him” (1 John 5:14-15).

Are you achieving faith by works to be justified by God or seeking someone else’s approval?

Pray: Heavenly Father, Thank You for giving me the gift of faith. I yearn to serve You in every capacity that I’m led. Knowing Your character and desires for Your people is important to me. Father, help me to go beyond hearing the Word but doing the Word. I’m ready to activate my faith so I can be credited as righteous. Guide me to be a faithful “friend of God” (see James 2:23). In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
