DAY 4 OF 4

Good Enough for Jesus, Good Enough for Me

Jesus knew that life can be tough. The Bible teaches us that we will never encounter any temptation that is foreign to Jesus. What does that mean? It means that whatever you may be feeling today, whatever tempting thoughts may be rambling through your head, you are not by yourself. Jesus, along with many others, has been where you are and came out victorious.

You might think, Jesus? He was God’s son, He was somehow immune to what we mere humans feel. Jesus was deity, He couldn’t have been any more God if He had not been human. At the same time, He couldn’t have been more human even if He had not been God. It’s called “hypostatic union.” What it means is this: Jesus was human like you. He suffered temptation, pain and heartache. He was even vulnerable to distraction and at times needed encouragement to stay focused and make the right choice.

An example is found in Luke 9 verse 31. This is when Jesus took Peter, James and John with Him to pray. Jesus had been talking about His impending death on the cross to prepare His disciples for what was coming. Every time He mentioned it, the disciples rejected the message and basically blew Him off. The feeling that He wasn’t getting through to them, combined with the physical suffering, humiliation and most of all, His becoming guilty of our sin, led to distraction. He could have bailed; He had a choice to make.

There, as they were praying, Elijah and Moses appeared in a glorious display of heavenly splendor for Jesus, Peter, James and John to see. Then the Bible records the most revealing truth – Luke. 9:31 “They appeared in heavenly glory and talked all about what Jesus’ death in Jerusalem would mean.”

Did you catch that? They were reminding Him that because of His death, we could live, eternally. They were encouraging Him to stay on track and make the right choice.

Feed your mind, heart and soul things from above. You can’t think two thoughts at the exact same time, so be intentional in what you take in. Christ knew you would need help, and He gave you a counselor just for that, the Holy Spirit. Trust Him as you make choices to think healthy; it will change your life, and who knows?  It might just change the world!
